Learn to Make Clear Ice Balls at Home

HOW-4

Clear ice balls are far more efficient at cooling drinks than typical ice cubes, but they aren’t all that common. Some restaurants or bars serve clear ice balls, but even so, most still serve drinks with typical ice cubes. Having a drink with a clear ice ball rather than with typical ice cubes is a better drinking experience, but there still aren’t a whole lot of places to find them. In today’s blog post, Spirits On Ice wants to help. Here are some ways that you can make ice balls at home.

1. Water Balloon

The easiest and cheapest way to make your own clear ice balls is by using balloons. The process is very simple. You only need a bag of balloons and a water faucet. Take out a balloon and fill it with water until the balloon is roughly the size you want your ice ball to be. Do that with one balloon or several, depending on how many ice balls you want. After you fill the balloons with water, simply put them in the freezer to cool for several hours. Make sure to keep them away from ice or anything sharp that might break the surface of the balloon.

After the balloons have been in the freezer for several hours and the water inside them is frozen, you can remove the balloons from the freezer and simply peel off the balloon, revealing your ice ball.

2. Clear Ice Ball Mold

The only bad thing about the water balloon option is that it won’t produce a strong or clean shape. Your ice ball will look more like an oval. If you want a homemade ice ball that has a cleaner shape, like one that you might find at a restaurant or a bar, you should invest in ice ball molds. You can find ice ball molds at home stores or grocery stores for as little as $10. These molds resemble egg cartons and are very easy to use. You simply pour the water in through a small hole at the top of the mold and put the mold in the freezer for several hours. Once they are done freezing, you can take the top off of the mold and enjoy.

3. Spirit Ice Vice

While there are several at-home ice ball solutions, none of them will provide you with ice balls as precise and beautiful as an ice ball machine like the Spirit Ice Vice. If you own a restaurant or a bar, you should bypass the do-it-yourself methods in favor of an ice ball maker. These ice balls will enhance your customer experience and are easy to use.
