Colored Ice Balls with an Ice Ball Machine and Food Coloring

Ice Ball Machine Colored Ice

Ice balls from a professional ice ball machine upgrade your signature cocktails instantly. They bring a touch of class, artistry, and showmanship to your bar or restaurant. The Spirit Ice Vice forms perfectly round ice balls from specially made ice blocks. In today’s blog, Spirits On Ice discusses how to make colored ice balls with an ice ball machine and food coloring.

Start With Mixing Water and Food Coloring

Before you even get to forming perfect 2-½ inch ice ball in an ice ball machine, you have to mix the water and food coloring. You can use less food coloring for muted colors, or add more drops for intense colors. The possibilities are endless with food-grade colorings. Stir the coloring and water together until you get the right hue you want.

Pour Into Our Silicone Mold and Freeze

Pour the water into our hexagonal silicone mold until the water is about ½ inch from the top. Freeze the molds overnight. For best results, put each mold in a cooler and then place the cooler in the freezer. This process creates a higher quality of ice ahead of making a ball in an ice ball machine.

Make the Ice Ball

Remove the ice block from the silicone mold whenever you’re ready to make a drink. Place the block on the Spirit Ice Vice platform and set the lid on it. About 60 seconds later, you have a perfectly round and colored ice ball from our ice ball machine.

Add to Signature Cocktails

Think ahead with regards to your signature cocktails. Make colored ice balls that complement or contrast the existing drink. For example, darken the drink with a blue ice ball in a red cocktail. Think about a red ice ball in a yellow cocktail for contrast as well. On the other hand, an orange ice ball in an orange-colored drink creates a cohesive presentation. The possibilities are endless with colored ice balls made in our high-end ice ball machine.

Clean the Ice Ball Maker

It’s essential to wipe down the Spirit Ice Vice ice ball machine after each use to make every ice ball turn out perfectly round. This is even more important with colored ice balls. You don’t want some leftover blue-colored water to spoil the beautiful yellow ice sphere you’re about to make. Simply wash off our ice ball machine with warm water and wipe down with a dry, soft cloth for best results.
